Pick Up A Retro Programme On Tuesday

Written by Newcastle Utd

The matchday programme has gone retro for the new season, and the third issue will be on sale on Tuesday

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

The Newcastle United matchday programme has gone retro for the 2015/16 campaign, and the third issue will be on sale for Tuesday's Capital One Cup second round tie against Northampton Town (7.45pm kick-off).

Each home game, a previous issue from the 1960s, 70s, 80s or 90s will be given a modern twist, with Tuesday's publication taking its inspiration from October 1963 and a Division Two clash between United and the Cobblers.

The original cover sees an action shot of an aerial challenge, so the cup tie issue instead features Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum heading home against Southampton on the opening day of this season.

Inside, we speak to two people inside the Magpies camp with Northampton connections - chief scout Graham Carr, who played and managed Northampton, and summer signing Ivan Toney, who was recruited from the League Two club earlier this month.

There are also reports and images from the first three games of the new season, while the history section looks at Bryan Harvey, who played in goal for both Northampton and Newcastle.

The official matchday programme will be available to purchase around St. James' Park and in the club store at the stadium on Saturday, priced at just £3 for 68 pages.

For supporters who are unable to make it to Tyneside for matchday, a digital version of the programme is available to download on all platforms, featuring everything included in the physical publication.

It can be purchased on a one-off basis for £2.99 per edition, or if you chose to subscribe for the whole season then there is a huge 40 per cent saving to be made, with a 12 month subscription costing just £34.99.
