Mehdi Abeid has joined Panathinaikos on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old midfielder joins the Greek Superleague side after more than four years on Tyneside, during which he made 21 appearances in all competitions.

Abeid signed for Newcastle United in May 2011 from Lens and made his debut four months later at Nottingham Forest in the League Cup.

A temporary spell at St. Johnstone was followed by a season-long loan at Panathinaikos during the 2013/14 campaign, and the one-cap Algerian international returned to Newcastle to make his Premier League debut in November 2014.

Abeid leaves St. James' Park with the Club's best wishes for his future at Panathinaikos.
