The second issue of United's retro matchday programme will be available to purchase on Sunday
By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor
The Newcastle United matchday programme is going retro for the 2015/16 campaign, and the second issue will be on sale for Sunday's Barclays Premier League opener against Southampton (1.30pm kick-off).
Each week, a previous issue from the 1960s, 70s, 80s or 90s will be given a modern twist, with this weekend's award-winning publication taking its inspiration from February 1970 and a Football League Division One tie between United and Southampton.
The original cover sees an illustrated image of a Newcastle player shooting past a goalkeeper, so Sunday's 100-page issue instead features Serbian summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic.
There is also a free A2 double-sided poster with each sold copy of the programme.
Inside, we speak exclusively to United new boy Chancel Mbemba, who opens up about settling in on Tyneside and life back home in Congo.
There are a couple of new features about the Magpies squad - Teammates and Players' Ink - which, this week, are with Jack Colback and Remy Cabella.
While we also hear from captain Fabricio Coloccini, head coach Steve McClaren and new signing Ivan Toney.
That is a just a snippet of what is inside this week's issue, with an extensive look at Sunday's opponents Southampton and four pages of quizzes and puzzles for our younger fans also included.
The official matchday programme will be available to purchase around St. James' Park and in the club store at the stadium on Sunday, priced at just £3 for 100 pages.
For supporters who are unable to make it to Tyneside for matchday, a digital version of the programme is available to download on all platforms, featuring everything included in the physical publication.
It can be purchased on a one-off basis for £2.99 per edition, or if you chose to subscribe for the whole season then there is a huge 40 per cent saving to be made, with a 12 month subscription costing just £34.99.
