New signing Ivan Toney will make his Newcastle United debut when Peter Beardsley's second-string kick off their Barclays Under-21 Premier League campaign against Wolves on Saturday.

A young Magpies side set off on Friday for the 3pm kick-off at Telford's New Bucks Head stadium, with Haris Vuckic, Lubo Satka and Callum Roberts among those involved.

Kevin Mbabu - who spent the second half of last season on loan with Rangers - is unavailable due to suspension while striker Tom Heardman, defender Jamie Sterry and midfielder Jack Hunter are injured.

But 19-year-old Toney - who joined from Northampton Town on Thursday - will play some part against Black Country opponents who are coached by Beardsley's former St. James' Park team-mate Scott Sellars.

"He has them playing good football, like we hope to do," Beardsley told nufc.co.uk. "Scott's a good lad - I get on really well with him and he did a brilliant job for this Club, so it'll be nice to see him."

Toney is likely to start up front after impressing in training and Beardsley admitted: "We're really pleased with Ivan.

"He's a good signing for the Club and long term, he'll hopefully have a bright future with us."

One player who United won't be able to call upon at Telford is Shane Ferguson, who joined Millwall on loan on Friday afternoon.

"He needs to go out on loan and he needs to play football," said Beardsley. "Good luck to him - he's a great kid."

Admission on Saturday is £5 for adults, £4 concessions and £1 for children.
