Take A Glance At A Gladbach Programme

Written by Newcastle Utd

The matchday programme is going retro for the new season, and the first issue will be on sale on Saturday

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

The Newcastle United matchday programme is going retro for the 2015/16 campaign, and the first issue will be on sale for Saturday's pre-season friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach (3pm kick-off).

Each week, a previous issue from the 1960s, 70s, 80s or 90s will be given a modern twist, with this weekend's publication taking its inspiration from August 1975 and an Anglo-Scottish Tournament tie between United and Middlesbrough.

The original cover sees the Tyne Bridge and then-Magpies' boss Gordon Lee alongside the Transporter Bridge and Boro supremo Jack Charlton. So Saturday's issue instead features Steve McClaren, Monchengladbach manager Lucien Favre, and the German city's famous minster.

Inside, we speak to United new boys Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic, as well as McClaren, who pens his first programme notes since taking charge at St. James' Park.

There are also reports and images from all six of Newcastle's pre-season friendlies to date, while the history section looks at connections with German opponents and players over the years.

The official matchday programme will be available to purchase around St. James' Park and in the club store at the stadium on Saturday, priced at just £3 for 68 pages.

For supporters who are unable to make it to Tyneside for matchday, a digital version of the programme is available to download on all platforms, featuring everything included in the physical publication.

It can be purchased on a one-off basis for £2.99 per edition, or if you chose to subscribe for the whole season then there is a huge 40 per cent saving to be made, with a 12 month subscription costing just £34.99.
