Boxing Day Boost For Magpies

Newcastle will be at home on Boxing Day this year for only the third time in the last 14 seasons.

The Barclays Premier League fixtures for 2015/16 were announced on Wednesday morning and Steve McClaren's side will entertain Everton at St. James' Park on Saturday, December 26th.

And they'll be hoping for a similar result to the last time they were at Gallowgate on Boxing Day - a 5-1 victory over Stoke City in 2013.

United's only other home Boxing Day fixture since 2001 was a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City.

By contrast, between 1998 and 2001 the Magpies were at home on Boxing Day for four seasons in a row.

Newcastle's Boxing Day record during the Premier League era has not been good, with only four victories. They have drawn four times and lost on 12 occasions.

Even during the Championship title-winning season of 2009/10, United were held to a draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

But McClaren will be hoping that home advantage will give Newcastle's supporters some festive cheer this time around.

The Magpies' Premier League record on Boxing Day is as follows:

1994/95 Leeds 0-0 Newcastle
1995/96 Man United 2-0 Newcastle
1996/97 Blackburn 1-0 Newcastle
1997/98 Derby 1-0 Newcastle
1998/99 Newcastle 0-3 Leeds
1999/00 Newcastle 2-2 Liverpool
2000/01 Newcastle 2-1 Leeds
2001/02 Newcastle 3-0 Middlesbrough
2002/03 Bolton 4-3 Newcastle
2003/04 Leicester 1-1 Newcastle
2004/05 Blackburn 2-2 Newcastle
2005/06 Liverpool 2-0 Newcastle
2006/07 Bolton 2-1 Newcastle
2007/08 Wigan 1-0 Newcastle
2008/09 Wigan 2-1 Newcastle
2010/11 Newcastle 1-3 Man City
2011/12 Bolton 0-2 Newcastle
2012/13 Man United 4-3 Newcastle
2013/14 Newcastle 5-1 Stoke
2014/15 Man United 3-1 Newcastle
