Dan's The Man For England, Says Coach

England under-18s coach Neil Dewsnip has been impressed by Newcastle midfielder Daniel Barlaser during the Young Lions' two games against Russia this week.

The Magpies midfielder made his England debut in a 2-0 win in Moscow on Monday, then came on as a 57th-minute substitute against the same opponents on Wednesday.

Dewsnip's side lost 2-1 in the second game but the coach was encouraged by what he saw in both outings and was particularly pleased with Barlaser and Leicester City's Elliott Moore, who had also been called up for the first time.

"Both Elliott and Dan have earned the right for this opportunity and they have taken it," he told TheFA.com.

"I thought both of them over the whole event have done really well and the fact that Sean (O'Driscoll, England under-19s coach) is here to see that is a real plus for them for next season.

"Some of the boys who are not here, for a variety of different reasons, Sean won't have the same view on them as he has not seen them playing for England. The pair of them might have just got a head start on some of the others."

Barlaser's Club colleagues Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong were also on the trip.

Woodman started both games while Armstrong captained the side in the two matches, scoring a penalty in the first fixture.

On Wednesday, Georgi Melkadze gave the hosts an early lead but Sheyi Ojo of Liverpool equalised.

However, Danil Poluboy Arinov scored the winning goal for Russia in stoppage time, with Woodman having made way for Fulham goalkeeper Magnus Norman at half time and Patrick Roberts, also of Fulham, replacing Armstrong in the 64th minute.
