Young Magpies Ready For Hong Kong Kick-Off

Peter Beardsley's Newcastle United will kick-off their Hong Kong Football Club Citibank Soccer Sevens campaign on Saturday.

The Magpies have been drawn in Group A of the competition and will start their challenge for silverware - which they lifted in 2012 - against Singapore Cricket Club (4.14pm local time, 9.14am GMT).

United will then face BC Rangers at 5.56pm local time (10.56am GMT) and Leicester City at 7.21pm local time (12.21pm GMT) - both also on Saturday.

Newcastle won the cup on their tournament debut in 2012, lost to Leicester City in the 2013 final and suffered an agonising semi-final exit last year after giving up a two-goal lead against Kitchee.

Football development manager Beardsley will take charge of an 11-man squad at the Happy Valley-based competition.

Forwards Callum Roberts, Tom Heardman and Alex Gilliead are joined by midfielders Liam Smith, Jack Hunter and Dan Barlaser, defenders Jamie Sterry, Callum Williams, Adam Laidler and Macaulay Gillespehy, and goalkeeper Adam Bartlett - a late call-up for injured stopper Paul Woolston.
