Sissoko Seeking Improvement Next Season

Written by Newcastle Utd

Moussa Sissoko believes Newcastle can "do much better" next season after he helped to secure their top flight status on Sunday

By Dan King - Newcastle United Digital Editor

Moussa Sissoko is already looking ahead to next season after Newcastle secured their Barclays Premier League status on Sunday.

The midfielder scored his fifth goal of the campaign in Sunday's 2-0 win over West Ham, sending a bullet header into the Gallowgate end net following Jonas Gutierrez's perfect cross.

That result saw the Magpies finish in 15th place, but Sissoko knows that United must improve on that next term.

He has been named in the France squad for friendlies against Belgium and Albania and will then put his feet up after a demanding few months which saw him play in last summer's World Cup in Brazil and play 38 times in all competitions for Newcastle during 2014/15.

"We have some holidays now and I hope next year, we will be better," the 25-year-old told nufcTV. "Everybody knows we are a good team. We can do much better.

"We showed some very good things (on Sunday) so we have to do that every week."

Sissoko added: "We played well from the start and we showed good character and mentality. We won the game and we stayed in the Premier League, so we're very happy.

"We scored in the second half and I think the game changed after that. We were solid, very compact and played together and Jonas scored the last goal.

"The fans were fantastic from the beginning until the end. They were behind us so I need to say thank you. It was a great day for Newcastle.

"Now we have some rest and we'll be back in July for the pre-season, ready for August."
