Newcastle United goalkeeper Paul Woolston helped England progress to the quarter-finals of the UEFA European Under-17 Championships, with a 1-0 victory over Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old stopper kept his second clean sheet in three games, while at the other end Marcus Edwards' eye-catching strike proved the difference as the Young Lions finished top of Group D.
Woolston - who has played for the Magpies' under-18 and under-21 sides this term - had a relatively quiet evening in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, but looked confident and assured and made a fantastic double save early in the second half.
Getting down well to keep out Ireland substitute Anthony Scully's long-range effort, Woolston then also denied JJ Lunney, who had pounced on the loose ball.
And that provided England with the solid foundation on which to secure the win.
John Peacock's youngsters will now face Russia in the quarter-finals on Saturday, where Woolston is expected to feature again, having been the Young Lions' first choice goalkeeper to date.
