Perez Believes Point Has Boosted United's Confidence

Ayoze Perez admits that ending their losing run has given Newcastle "a lot of confidence" going into their final two games of the season

Ayoze Pérez admits that Saturday's vital draw against West Bromwich Albion has lifted spirits at St. James' Park.

Newcastle had lost their previous eight games before the Baggies arrived on Tyneside, and fell behind to Victor Anichebe's 32nd minute header.

But Pérez levelled shortly before the break with his seventh goal of the season to end the Magpies' miserable run and keep them out of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone with two games left to play.

"We had a really bad start to the game and the goal made up for it," he told nufcTV. "It is one more goal for me under my belt so it was important.

"What was going through my mind was just to put the ball in the net. I saw the opportunity and I just went for goal.

"Despite all that has been going on and is happening at the moment, the supporters gave us the best and we definitely felt that."

John Carver's side are now two points clear of Hull City, who lost 1-0 to Burnley at the weekend.

Despite that result, the battling Clarets were relegated while United's next opponents, Queens Park Rangers, are also down after losing 6-0 at Manchester City on Sunday.

And Pérez said: "We were definitely after the three points, but that point is very important at this stage.

"It has given us a lot of confidence, but we need to focus on the next game against QPR and go after those important three points.

"We have to go full steam ahead against QPR.

"It is a crucial game - very important - and we need to go there and get the three points."
