Carver Plots Tyneside Triumph

Written by Newcastle Utd

John Carver is determined to get a victory this weekend, as United entertain West Bromwich Albion

By Emily Bulmer

Newcastle United head coach John Carver says the sooner his team pick up some points, the better - starting on Saturday against West Bromwich Albion.

The Magpies are back on home turf as they welcome Tony Pulis' side to St James' Park, hoping to record a first double of the season.

The Baggies have enjoyed a good run of late and travel to Tyneside on the back of an impressive victory at Old Trafford - potentially securing their Premier League status for next season in the process.

"West Brom are a very organised side under Tony (Pulis) and they are a huge threat from set plays," said Carver.

"Manchester United found it very difficult to break them down but we are the home team and we need to win the game.

"It's going to be very tight. I can't see there being too many goals looking at our record and at theirs, but we are determined to find a way to win on Saturday.

"We have had a bad run of games but I've seen enough from the lads that they want to be productive and they want to do something about it."

Despite the other teams at the foot of the table picking up points from their recent fixtures, Carver insists he remains focused on Newcastle's games and no-one else's.

"I'm not worried about anyone else's results. We are in the position where we can affect what happens," he continued.

"It's in our hands - we are not one of the teams in the bottom three. We can't afford to worry about what everyone else is doing.

"I don't think about what the teams are doing below us because I can't affect that in any way.

"I'm going to focus all my effort and all my concentration on what I can do at this football club, and the earlier we can get results the better - starting with this weekend."
