Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles completed their season-long loans at Nottingham Forest with a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against Cardiff last Saturday.
The pair both played the full 90 minutes of the Championship fixture at the City Ground, but they were unable to end the campaign on a high before returning to St. James' Park next season.
Goalkeeper Darlow found himself picking the ball out of the back of the net twice in the opening 24 minutes, as Joe Ralls' volley and an Eoin Doyle header gave the Bluebirds a comfortable lead.
In the 75th minute, centre-back Lascelles was involved in an incident which saw Cardiff keeper David Marshall sent off, but despite pulling one back through Dexter Blackstock, the Reds were unable to salvage anything from the clash.
The result saw Forest finish 14th in the Championship, with 59 points from their 46 games.
North of the border, Haris Vuckic played 81 minutes of Rangers' 2-2 draw at Scottish Championship champions Hearts.
Rangers were coasting with a two-goal lead when Slovenian forward Vuckic was withdrawn at Tynecastle.
But two late Hearts goals meant the points were shared, as Rangers had to settle for third spot and a play-off quarter-final against Queen of the South.
In France, Sylvain Marveaux helped Guingamp to a 2-0 home victory over Reims.
Marveaux played 79 minutes of the Ligue 1 fixture, which leaves Guingamp tenth in the table with three games remaining.
