Riviere: 'Mistakes Cost Us'

Emmanuel Riviere believes United deserved a result against Swansea, but were left to rue mistakes

Emmanuel Riviere believes Newcastle United deserved at least a point against Swansea City on Saturday, but were left to rue mistakes which condemned them to a seventh successive defeat.
The Magpies went down 3-2 at St. James' Park, with Ayoze Perez and Siem de Jong on target for the luckless hosts.
At the other end, Swansea secured all the victory thanks to efforts from Nelson Oliveira, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jack Cork, and Riviere insists the result was harsh on United.
"We are very disappointed because we played well, we worked hard and wanted to win, but sometimes that doesn't happen and this time we were unlucky," the French forward told nufc.co.uk.
"We did everything - we ran, we fought - but we were not able to get the win and so are very disappointed.
"I think we deserved something but we made mistakes, and when you make mistakes you cannot win.
"We have to work hard to make sure those mistakes do not happen again."
For Riviere, it was a return to the starting line-up - just his 15th start of a tough first season in the Barclays Premier League following a switch from Monaco last summer.
The front man has scored just twice - both in the Capital One Cup at Crystal Palace last September - but is confident he can fire Newcastle to top flight safety over the next month.
"It was good to be back in the team but I need to work again to score because the team needs goals," he continued.
"I want to be the man who helps the team win and that means goals. That is what I have to do between now and the end of the season.
"This season has been difficult for me but I still feel that I have goals in me. I am still working and fighting because I know I am good enough to score goals in the Premier League."
