John Carver believes Saturday's Barclays Premier League home fixture against Swansea City has come at a good time for Newcastle United.
The South Wales side arrive at St. James' Park having enjoyed a successful season so far, occupying eighth place in the top flight table and 12 points ahead of the Magpies.
United haven't beaten the Swans since April 2012, but Carver believes their depleted squad and lack of striking options could play into his hands.
"When you look at the last six games we've had they've been very difficult fixtures," said the head coach.
"But, if you look at Swansea's situation they've got one of two injuries now and they've had to reshuffle the team so we'll take that as our advantage.
"They're a side that will try and keep the ball and so we'll have to be patient at times, but I've got to come up with a winning formula and get the three points.
"I remember in the fixture last year they got a very late winner in the death of the game that killed us off a little bit.
"We know what they're about and we know their strengths and weaknesses but it's about us now. We got a good draw earlier in the season and we're looking to take that one step further this weekend."
