Siem To Be Involved Against City

Written by Newcastle Utd

Siem de Jong could be in line for his first appearance since August when United face Swansea City

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Siem de Jong could be in line for his first appearance since August when Newcastle United entertain Swansea City at St. James' Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Dutch international playmaker - a summer signing from Ajax - has suffered a frustrating first campaign on Tyneside, making just three appearances, with a torn thigh followed by a collapsed lung in February, just as the 26-year-old was set for a return.

But now fully fit and with two under-21 showings under his belt in the past ten days - against Derby and Aston Villa - de Jong will be in first team squad for this weekend's crucial Barclays Premier League fixture.

"Siem got just over 70 minutes (at Aston Villa) and will be in the squad and involved (against Swansea)," revealed head coach John Carver.

"Some of his play (against Aston Villa) was very good - he put a great pass through for Adam Armstrong, which only he could see.

"He has looked bright again today so he is definitely in the group of 18."

Midfielder Jonas Gutierrez was not involved in last weekend's defeat at Tottenham following a training ground disagreement with John Carver.

But the head coach revealed the matter has been resolved, and when asked if Gutierrez will return to the squad for Saturday's fixture, Carver replied: "Absolutely.

"There was a situation on the training ground, which happens at every football club.

"We've got together, had a good conversation, shaken hands like two grown men and we will be moving on."

Tickets for Saturday's Barclays Premier League home fixture against Swansea City are still available, starting from just £10 for juniors. To secure your seat at St. James' Park, click here.
