De Jong To Play For Under-21s

Siem de Jong is set to play for Newcastle's under-21s against Derby on Wednesday night while Rolando Aarons and Facundo Ferreyra could also feature

Siem de Jong is set to make his comeback from a collapsed lung when Newcastle's under-21s entertain Derby County at St. James' Park on Wednesday (kick-off 7pm).

And Rolando Aarons also has a chance of featuring in the second-string clash against the Rams according to head coach John Carver.

Both players have been a huge miss for the Magpies over the last few months, with De Jong's last league appearance coming back in August and Aarons sidelined since November with hamstring problems.

United are keen to ensure that England under-20 ace Aarons is not rushed back, so a decision will be made ahead of the game as to his involvement.

But former Ajax captain De Jong, who had recovered from a thigh injury before suffering the fresh blow in February, seems certain to play, while Facundo Ferreyra is also likely to feature.

Carver told nufcTV: "Siem will play in the Reserves on Wednesday night against Derby.

"And I need to have a look at Rolando Aarons to see whether he's involved or not."

Paul Dummett is also making good progress in his own comeback from injury, but Carver does not expect to have the Wales international, De Jong or Aarons back for Sunday's Barclays Premier League game against Tottenham.

"They're close, but I can't see any one of the three being available for the next game, certainly, if not the next two or three games," he admitted.

"We've got to be careful with Paul Dummett because he had a bad knee injury. We'll bring him back when he's ready."

Admission on Wednesday night is free to season ticket holders and Members, otherwise £3 for adults and £1 concessions.
