Dummett Steps Up Recovery

Written by Newcastle Utd

Defender Paul Dummett is making good progress in his recovery from a medial ligament injury and has stepped up his return this week

Paul Dummett has given Newcastle United a timely boost by stepping up his return from a knee injury.

And the 23-year-old, who has been sidelined since February's 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace, could play again this season after making good progress in his recovery.

It had been feared that the medial ligament problem, which left the Wales international defender on crutches, could bring his campaign to a premature end.

But the tough former Kenton School pupil is ahead of schedule in his comeback and returned to light outdoor training with senior physiotherapist Derek Wright this week.

That's great news for the Magpies, who have sorely missed Dummett's versatility in recent weeks.

And Wales boss Chris Coleman will also be interested in the Newcastle man's progress ahead of June's crucial European Championships qualifier against Belgium.

With Fabricio Coloccini's three-match suspension finishing after Monday night's trip to Liverpool, United's defensive problems are finally showing some signs of easing - although Steven Taylor and Massadio Haidara won't play again this term.

And with Rolando Aarons and Siem de Jong also getting closer to full fitness, John Carver could have a few more options for the final games of the season.
