Jonas Gutierrez will make his first Barclays Premier League start for Newcastle since August 2013 in this afternoon's Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light.
The inspirational Argentine's last league start was on the opening day of last season but, having made four substitute appearances since successfully battling cancer, he is named in John Carver's XI to face the Black Cats.
He comes in for Vurnon Anita in what is the only change to the side which started the game against Arsenal two weeks ago.
That means an unchanged defence, with Ryan Taylor - the derby hero of August 2011 - continuing at right-back and former Black Cats favourite Jack Colback deputising at left-back.
Daryl Janmaat will partner Mike Williamson in the centre of defence.
Gutierrez will be tasked with providing a midfield platform from which Remy Cabella, stand-in-skipper Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran and Sammy Ameobi can sparkle, with Ayoze Perez leading the line.
Mehdi Abeid returns to the bench after recovering from injury.
Rob Elliot is the substitute goalkeeper while Anita, Olivier Kemen, Gabriel Obertan, Emmanuel Riviere and Adam Armstrong are the other outfield options.
Former Newcastle loanee Patrick van Aanholt lines up for Sunderland, who start with three strikers in Steven Fletcher, Connor Wickham and Jermain Defoe.
