Woolston So Proud To Wear Three Lions

Newcastle's teenage goalkeeper Paul Woolton admits that representing England makes him feel "ten feet tall"

Paul Woolston says he feels "ten feet tall" after being called up by England for their European Under-17 Championship Elite Round qualifying campaign.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper is at St. George's Park this week as John Peacock's youngsters prepare to take on Norway, Slovenia and Romania and hopefully earn a place in this summer's finals.

North Shields-born Woolston missed the recent Algarve Tournament with an elbow injury, but was selected to join up with his international colleagues on Sunday at the National Football Centre in Burton.

And, speaking to TheFA.com, he said: "This is the Elite Round, these teams deserve to be here just as much as us, so we know they are going to be strong. We have to be ready and we are working hard to ensure we are.

"When you go away it can sometimes take you a few days to adjust to the pitch and the hotel, but you know exactly what you are going to get at St. George's Park. Everything is provided for us to do well, it's up to us to use that and ensure we get the three wins that we are aiming for.

"St. George's is the home of the England teams. It's hard to describe what it's like when you have your England gear on walking around the place, it makes you feel ten feet tall. But it also lets you know that you are here representing your country and you have to step up to the plate.

"We need to prove why we are worthy of pulling on the Three Lions, especially with us hosting the games. A lot more people will be watching us and we all have something to prove to show why we deserve to be in this team."
