Keeping Up With The Jones'

Mike Jones will referee United's Premier League home game against Arsenal on Saturday

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Mike Jones will referee Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League home game against Arsenal on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

It is the third time this season the Cheshire-based official has been in charge of a Magpies' match, having overseen August's 3-3 home draw with Crystal Palace and a 3-1 Boxing Day defeat at Manchester United.

On that festive afternoon at Old Trafford, Jones booked three players, including Steven Taylor and Yoan Gouffran, and awarded United a late penalty - their only spot-kick in the top flight this term.

In total during the 2014/15 campaign, Jones has officiated 26 games across the Premier League, Championship, FA Cup and Capital One Cup, issuing 91 yellow cards and seven reds.

The 46-year-old was promoted to the Football League list of referees in 1997 and went on to take charge of the League Two play-off final and FA Trophy in 2007, before moving into the Select Group which officiates in the top flight.

In May 2012, he was the fourth official for referee Phil Dowd at the FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Liverpool.

On Saturday at St. James' Park, Jones will be assisted by Richard West and Mark Scholes, with Andy Woolmer the game's fourth official.

Tickets for Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash against Arsenal are still available to Members. To secure your seat at St. James' Park, click here.
