Woolston Receives Euro Call

Teenage goalkeeper Paul Woolston has been named in the England squad for the upcoming European Under-17 Championship qualifiers

Newcastle's promising young goalkeeper, Paul Woolston, has been named in the England squad for this month's European Under-17 Championship Elite Round qualifiers.

The North Shields-born 16-year-old has been named in John Peacock's squad for matches against Norway, Slovenia and Romania.

Woolston helped England to breeze through the first qualification round back in October with a 100 per cent record, but had to withdraw from the squad for last month's Algarve Tournament due to injury.

However, he's now recovered and is one of two goalkeepers to be named in the squad.

He will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Magpies goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who starred alongside Adam Armstrong as England won the European Under-17 Championships in Malta last year.

The top two sides will qualify for this summer's tournament in Bulgaria.

England entertain Norway at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium on Saturday, 21st March (kick-off 3pm) and Slovenia two days later at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium (kick-off 7pm).

The final game against Romania will be played at Burton on Thursday, 26th March (kick-off 7pm).

Tickets for the Norway and Romania games are available from Burtonalbionfc.co.uk/tickets or by calling 01283 565938. Tickets for the Slovenia game can be bought from Chesterfield-fc.co.uk/tickets or by calling 01246 488232.

The full England under-17 squad is: Paul Woolston (Newcastle United), Will Huffer (Leeds United), Danny Collinge (Stuttgart), Reece Oxford (West Ham United), Easah Suliman (Aston Villa), James Yates (Everton), Jay DaSilva (Chelsea), Tayo Edun (Fulham), Daniel Wright (Sunderland), Will Patching (Manchester City), Tom Davies (Everton), Marcus Edwards (Tottenham), Nathan Holland (Everton), Christopher Willock (Arsenal), Layton Ndukwu (Leicester City), Lukas Nmecha (Manchester City), Kazaiah Sterling (Tottenham), Ike Ugbo (Chelsea).
