Newcastle United secured their first win in four with a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, and right-back Daryl Janmaat was instrumental in creating the goal.
Janmaat provided the cross from which Papiss Cisse netted shortly before half-time, and in doing so, became the first Magpies defender ever to assist as many as six goals in a single Premier League season.
And after the final whistle at St. James' Park, the 25-year-old described the victory as 'crucial' for both the team and the supporters, as United look to break back into the Premier League's top ten.
"Today was a very important win and just what we needed as a team," he told nufc.co.uk.
"We were desperate for the three points, especially after the game at Man City.
"It was not the best game of football to watch but we definitely showed some spirit and we are all positive in the dressing room.
"I think the win will take a little bit of pressure off us and off the head coach. The aim is still to finish in the top ten - it's going to be hard but we will definitely try.
"We're on 35 points now and still 11th in the table but we want to carry that forward and win more games.
"The points were very important as Wednesday (against Manchester United) is a huge game, so now we can have a little bit more confidence going in to it."
