Obertan Wants To Make Fans Happy

Written by Newcastle Utd

Gabriel Obertan is keen to put smiles back on the faces of Newcastle's supporters after admitting that United let themselves down against Manchester City

Gabriel Obertan hopes Newcastle can put smiles back on the faces of their loyal supporters on Saturday.

United were well beaten at Manchester City last weekend, and French flyer Obertan admitted that the Magpies let themselves down at the Etihad Stadium.

They never recovered from falling behind inside the first few seconds of the match, eventually losing 5-0 to the champions.

But on Saturday, United go from facing a team sitting second in the Barclays Premier League to entertaining the side sitting second-bottom. Aston Villa come to St. James' Park on the back of six straight league defeats and boss Paul Lambert was replaced by Tim Sherwood earlier this month.

"It was a tough game for us at Manchester City," Obertan told nufcTV. "They're a pretty good team but I think we let ourselves down, too.

"So hopefully we'll get a nice result (against Villa), get three points and make the fans happy.

"It's a great feeling to have that support so hopefully they're right behind us, like always, and we'll get a good result."

Obertan hasn't started a game since suffering a thigh injury against Liverpool in November, but the former Manchester United man has made a couple of substitute appearances since returning to action and is hoping to feature more prominently against the Villans.

"I'm fully fit and hopefully I'll get some more time on the pitch," he said. "It's down to JC (John Carver) but I feel good, I feel ready and I hope I'll get a chance."
