Foy's The Boy At The Etihad

Chris Foy will referee Newcastle United's Premier League fixture at Manchester City on Saturday

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Chris Foy will referee Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture at Manchester City on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off).

It is the third time this season the Lancashire-based official has taken charge of a Magpies match, after being the man in the middle of United's 4-0 defeat at Southampton in September, followed by a single-goal home triumph against Queens Park Rangers in November.

On that afternoon against the R's, Foy booked five players including Newcastle pair Moussa Sissoko and Adam Armstrong.

Foy was due to referee United's recent home game against Stoke City but was replaced at the last minute by colleague Kevin Friend.

So far, Foy has overseen 18 games in the 2014/15 campaign across the Premier League, Championship, FA Cup and Capital One Cup, issuing 64 yellow cards, eight red cards and awarding two penalties.

Fifty-two-year-old Foy started officiating in 1983 and worked his way up the ranks before becoming a Premier League referee in 2001 - with his first appointment coming in December of that year as Bolton and Charlton played out a goalless draw.

He was in charge of the 2009 League Cup final and the following year's FA Cup final - his highest honours to date.

On Saturday at the Etihad Stadium, Foy will be assisted by Harry Lennard and Andy Garratt, with Robert Madley the game's fourth official.
