Barlaser - 'Please Cheer Us On'

Written by Newcastle Utd

Daniel Barlaser is hoping for a big crowd at St. James' Park on Monday night when Newcastle face Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup with admission free

Daniel Barlaser has urged Newcastle supporters to cheer on the Magpies' stars of the future when they face holders Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup on Monday (kick-off 7.05pm).

Admission at St. James' Park is free and Barlaser knows that the backing of the Toon Army could give the young United side an advantage against the Blues, who won 3-2 after extra time on Tyneside in a thrilling match at the same stage of last season's competition.

There was a crowd of 2,506 at Gallowgate that night and 18-year-old Barlaser - who signed his first professional contract with the Club this month - is hoping for an even bigger attendance this time around.

"Hopefully we can get as many people as possible down to support the lads, because it's really going to be a tough game," the Gateshead-born midfielder told nufcTV.

"They (Chelsea) have got unbelievable side but with the character and desire we've got, I think we can do it and win."

Chelsea - who went on to beat Fulham in last season's final - have beaten Leeds, Huddersfield and Swansea to reach this stage and scored six goals against both the Terriers and the Swans.

United, meanwhile, have seen off Millwall, Middlesbrough and Sunderland, with the win at the Stadium of Light coming after a penalty shoot-out.

"All the lads have been sensational," said Barlaser, who also played a part in last term's run to the last eight.

"We had a strong team last year but the character in the team is absolutely fantastic and to win the three games that we have in the way we have has been fantastic.

"Hopefully we can maybe go one step further (than last season), beat Chelsea and get to the semi-finals."

Admission at St. James' Park on Monday night is FREE to all supporters via the East Stand turnstiles, which will open one hour before kick-off.
