Lubo Satka was left with mixed emotions following his Newcastle United debut on Saturday - admitting he would have swapped it for progression in the FA Cup.
The 19-year-old Slovakian defender was given more than half-an-hour's action as a second half replacement for Davide Santon against Leicester in the third round of the famous competition.
After the final whistle Satka was clutching a bag with his own shirt from the match - a momento of his Magpies bow - but after suffering a 1-0 defeat at the King Power Stadium, would have preferred to see United in the bag for the next round instead.
"It's a massive competition for the club and the fans, and to get knocked out at the first round we are in, everyone is very disappointed," Satka told nufc.co.uk.
"I think we controlled the game quite well, had a good amount of possession and created some good chances.
"We were just unlucky with the disallowed goal - which wasn't offside - and then conceded from a cross, which shouldn't be happening from a short corner. I thought we deserved more.
"Getting on the pitch was an amazing experience. At first, I didn't believe I was coming on.
"Everyone just told me to treat it like any other game, go out there and enjoy it, and that's what I tried to do. You have to do that - you cannot get caught up in the occasion.
"It's hopefully the first appearance of many but there is a lot of hard work in front of me. I'm just going to keep working hard, pushing on and see what happens.
"It was amazing to make my competitive debut and I'm really happy with that, but the result is more important than anything individual and I wish we had got through instead."
