Tiote: 'We'll Learn From This'

Cheick Tiote insists Newcastle will learn valuable lessons from their Premier League defeat at Arsenal

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Cheick Tiote insists Newcastle United will learn valuable lessons from Saturday's 4-1 Barclays Premier League defeat at Arsenal.

Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla bagged a brace apiece for the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium, with Ayoze Perez's diving header the only moment of cheer for United fans in North London.

It was the first time since the start of October that the Magpies had conceded more than a single goal in a game, and Tiote believes United were not good enough as a collective defensive unit.

"Everybody is disappointed about the game," he told nufc.co.uk.

"When Ayo scored (at 3-0 down) it gave us the confidence that we could get back into the game, and we tried to push and push to make it closer.

"Because of that we conceded the fourth goal on the break, and that can happen when you are chasing the game.

"We have been on a very good run and we still have confidence in ourselves, but we have to improve.

"We know we can do better than this and we will learn from the match.

"We didn't defend well enough as a team and did not do the right things on the pitch. We have to learn quickly to put it right for Wednesday night against Tottenham."
