United Win Performance Of The Week Award

Written by Newcastle Utd

United have won the League Managers Association Performance of the Week award

Newcastle United have won the League Managers Association Performance of the Week award, following last Saturday's 2-1 Barclays Premier League victory over Chelsea.

The five-man panel, comprising LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that the newly-sponsored and long-standing LG Performance of the Week award should go to the Magpies.

United manager Alan Pardew will receive a new specially-commissioned trophy made by silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.

Newcastle secured the award after two second half goals from substitute Papiss Cisse ensured victory against the previously-unbeaten top flight leaders, which lifted the Magpies to seventh in the table.

Speaking after the match, Pardew was delighted with the result.

"At the end it was like Boy's Own story," he said.

"You can only do that if you have a fantastic training ground spirit and love. It's about love and covering each other and they did that today.

"It's a fabulous day for us and it's a famous victory and I'm overjoyed for the staff and the fans."
