Cisse Praises Half-Time Switch

Goalscorer Papiss Cisse believes a change in style helped United earn a point at Burnley on Tuesday

Goalscorer Papiss Cisse believes a change in style helped Newcastle United earn a point at Burnley on Tuesday night in the Barclays Premier League.

George Boyd struck the Clarets in front and it was no less than the hosts deserved for an impressive opening period in which they dominated for spells.

However, a double substitution and a switch of style at half-time put United on the front foot, and Cisse promptly swept home his fifth goal of the season from Daryl Janmaat's cross.

"It was a good point from a hard game. Of course, our objective was to win the game but the way things went, to come away with one point was good," the Magpies' leading scorer told nufc.co.uk following the final whistle.

"The first half and second half were very different. We just kept kicking the ball long in the first half and made things very difficult for ourselves. But the gaffer changed things at half-time and that helped us get back in the game.

"At half-time the manager said that we had to keep the ball and play - play all the time, at every chance.

"We knew we would get back in the game by playing football rather than kicking it long, and when we did that we scored straightaway."

Cisse's goal at Turf Moor was his first since the start of October, when he bagged a brace away at Swansea.

And the Senegalese front man knew he had to take his second chance of the evening, after spurning a decent first-half opening when he blazed over Yoan Gouffran's knock-down.

"The goal wasn't an easy finish but I tried it anyway," said Cisse.

"I just stuck out my leg and was so happy to see the ball in the back of the net. I was happy for the team.

"I had one chance in the first half and did not do well with my shot but in the second half, when the ball came to me I knew I had to do better and thankfully I scored.

"I'm happy so far with five goals. I always try to do my best for the team, and if my goals can help us get a point or three points then I am doing my job on the pitch."
