Hatem Ben Arfa lasted just 35 minutes of Hull City's 3-0 Barclays Premier League defeat at Manchester United on Saturday before being replaced by Sone Aluko.
The French winger started the match but endured a torrid opening half-hour at the hands of Louis van Gaal's United before Tigers boss Steve Bruce made the change, bringing on the pacy Nigerian international in place of the on-loan Ben Arfa.
Goals from Chris Smalling, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie sealed a comfortable win for the hosts at Old Trafford, with Hull rarely troubling David de Gea in the Red Devils' goal.
Nottingham Forest's Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles were on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat at Birmingham City in the Championship.
Gary Rowett's strugglers, helped by the dismissal of Forest's leading marksman Britt Assombalonga, won it thanks to a last-minute Paul Caddis penalty, with centre-half Lascelles booked for a foul in the closing seconds.
Young forward Adan Campbell, meanwhile, started for Hartlepool United as League Two's basement club were beaten 3-1 at home by league leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
The 19-year-old was unable to get himself on the scoresheet against Gareth Ainsworth's Chairboys and was replaced just before the hour mark by Sidney Schmeltz.
Another of the Magpies' youth products, Tom Heardman, was not involved for Vanarama Conference outfit Gateshead in their 2-1 defeat to Dover Athletic.
The loss at the International Stadium means the Heed are now winless in four games, leaving them four points off the final play-off spot.
In France, Guingamp - for whom Sylvain Marveaux was missing through injury - lost 2-0 away at Evian in Ligue 1.
And In Serie A, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa didn't make it off the bench in Roma's 4-2 win over Roberto Mancini's Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico.
