Sammy Showing Consistent Class

Alan Pardew has called on Sammy Ameobi to continue his recent vein of impressive form against QPR

Alan Pardew has called on Sammy Ameobi to continue his recent vein of impressive form and cement a place in Newcastle United's starting line-up.

The 22-year-old Academy product has been involved in nine of the Magpies' last ten fixtures, scoring his first Premier League goal against Tottenham last month and catching the eye with his displays on the left flank.

Ahead of Saturday's visit of Queens Park Rangers, Pardew revealed he is happy to see Ameobi finally stringing together quality performances on a more consistent basis, having frustrated the boss in recent years.

"Sammy is at an age now where he needs to be consistent, and I think the problem with him (before) has been an inconsistency in his performances," said Pardew, who has seen recent injuries to Gabriel Obertan and Rolando Aarons deplete his options in the wide areas.

"Some have been good, some bad, but he needs to be solid and he's been much better when he's played 90 minutes this year."
