Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot won his third international cap for Republic of Ireland, as they beat United States 4-1 in a friendly on Tuesday night.

The stopper was a second-half substitute at the Aviva Stadium, in Dublin, replacing former Magpies hero Shay Given, and saw out the closing stages quite comfortably.

Hull's Robbie Brady found the back of the net twice for the Boys in Green, while Anthony Pilkington and James McClean were also on target for Martin O'Neill's side. Mikkel Diskerud scored America's consolation.

Elsewhere, Moussa Sissoko was also a replacement as France triumphed 1-0 over Sweden at Marseille's Stade Velodrome.

The midfield powerhouse was introduced on 61 minutes in place of Dimitri Payet with the game goalless, and helped Les Bleus eventually seal a late win, with Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane heading the winner with six minutes remaining.
