Hull The Catalyst For Unbeaten Month

Written by Newcastle Utd

Alan Pardew believes his side's fightback against Hull in September laid the foundations for an unbeaten October

By Steven Back

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has pointed to his side's fightback against Hull City last month as the catalyst to the Magpies' unbeaten October.

Since coming from two goals down against the Tigers to secure a 2-2 draw at St. James' Park, United have lost just once in six games - a single-goal defeat at Stoke at the end of September.

And as the calendar ticked into October, Newcastle went on to win three of their four fixtures - drawing the other - and progressed to the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup in the process.

When asked what he felt had contributed to that unbeaten month, which saw them climb clear of the Premier League's relegation zone, Pardew said: "The comeback against Hull.

"Two down on the back of a difficult run - that would have been a really difficult result to take.

"But Papiss getting those two goals and coming back to fitness probably just gave us that boost which we needed, and I think we have taken that into all the games since.

"We've got a good points total out of the month and want to improve on our position by beating Liverpool."
