A Win For Woolston

Goalkeeper Paul Woolston was in action for England Under-17s on Thursday as the Young Lions beat France 3-1 in Paphos.

Sixteen-year-old Woolston, who has featured regularly between the sticks for United's under-18 side this season, played the full 90 minutes for his country as goals from Manchester City's Will Patching, Arsenal's Chris Willock and Chelsea's Jay Da Silva sealed the win for Kenny Swain's youngsters.

Substitute Yann Karamoah pulled a goal back on the hour mark to ruin Woolston's hopes of keeping a clean sheet, but the victory was enough to see England leapfrog France into top spot in European Under-17 Championship qualifying round four.

Woolston will now return to Tyneside and could feature in Dave Watson's Magpies team for the Barclays Under-18 Premier League visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers to Little Benton on Saturday (kick-off 1pm).
