Ryan Taylor makes his first appearance in more than two years as Newcastle United travel to Manchester City in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup (7.45pm kick-off).
The versatile 30-year-old has been out of action since a Europa League tie against Atromitos in August 2012, suffering successive cruciate ligament injuries.
But Taylor has battled back to earn a place in the Magpies' starting line-up against cup holders City, and his inclusion is one of six changes to United's side from Sunday's Premier League victory at Tottenham Hotspur.
Also coming in are goalkeeper Rob Elliot, defender Massadio Haidara, midfielder Mehdi Abeid and teenage forwards Adam Armstrong and Rolando Aarons.
Newcastle are expected to start in a 4-3-3 formation, with Elliot behind a slightly reshuffled back four of Daryl Janmaat, captain Fabricio Coloccini, Paul Dummett and Haidara.
Taylor will form one third of a central midfield trio, alongside Abeid and Jack Colback, while Gabriel Obertan and Aarons will flank England Under-18 international Armstrong in attack.
On the substitutes' bench, there is a place for fit-again striker Emmanuel Riviere, and he is joined among the replacements by Ayoze Perez, Yoan Gouffran, Sammy Ameobi, Remy Cabella, Moussa Sissoko and Tim Krul.
