On Sunday, Ayoze Pérez scored his first goal in the Barclays Premier League as Newcastle beat Tottenham and on Monday night, the young Spaniard's week got even better.
The 21-year-old forward picked up two awards at the Liga de Fútbol Profesional's annual awards night in Madrid, where he rubbed shoulders with some of Spanish football's biggest stars.
He won the prize for the Best Breakthrough Player in the 2013/14 Liga Adelante ahead of SD Eibar's Jota Peleteiro and RC Deportivo's Pablo Insua, and was also chosen as the Segunda league's Best Attacking Midfielder. Peleteiro and UD Las Palmas star Juan Carlos Valeron were the other players to be nominated.
Pérez, who scored 16 goals in 34 appearances for CD Tenerife last season before joining Newcastle in June, was given special dispensation to attend the ceremony ahead of United's Capital One Cup fourth round tie at Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The likes of Cristiano Rolando, Diego Costa, Sergio Busquets, Andrés Iniesta and Thiabut Courtois were also up for awards at the gala ceremony.
Speaking to nufcTV, Pérez said: "It was a great feeling to score my first goal in the Premier League for Newcastle and I'm really, really proud to be part of the names, because the awards are for players in the Primera and Segunda so it's a very important awards ceremony."
