Ameobi: 'Anything Can Happen'

Written by Newcastle Utd

Sammy Ameobi is "really looking forward to" Wednesday's Capital One Cup fourth round tie against the holders, Manchester City

Manchester City are the bookmakers' clear favourites ahead of Wednesday night's Capital One Cup fourth round tie against Newcastle, but Sammy Ameobi has insisted: "You never know what can happen."

And the Magpies man - who scored within seconds of coming from the bench at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday - knows that if United show the same spirit and belief that they did at White Hart Lane, they can pull off a shock against the reigning league champions and Capital One Cup holders.

City ended Newcastle's interest in the competition last term, winning 2-0 after extra time at St. James' Park, but Alan Pardew's side go into the game at the Etihad Stadium on the back of two successive victories and with their tails up.

"It's been a tough start to the season - everybody knows that - but we've stuck together," Ameobi told nufcTV.

"We had to stick together or we wouldn't be where we are now. We've had to just fight for it because that's the Premier League. There are no easy games and hopefully we can kick on from here.

"It's never an easy place to go, Man City, but I'm really looking forward to it.

"If we can go out with the confidence we had against Tottenham, you never know what can happen."

Ameobi is pushing hard for a start against the Citizens after his instant impact against Spurs.

His progress has been interrupted by niggling injuries over the last two seasons but he's determined to put that behind him.

"Hopefully I can get a good stint of football," he said. "That's all I want; injury-free football.

"I'll keep working, strengthening myself, and hopefully I'll get that."
