Remie Streete came off the bench to help Port Vale record a clean sheet on his professional debut as they beat Leyton Orient 3-0 in League One on Saturday.
The 19-year-old, who joined the Valiants on a month's loan just over a fortnight ago, replaced Carl Dickinson at half-time with the game goalless and turned in a solid performance at the back to secure a shut-out against the struggling O's.
Centre-half Streete has been named on the bench by caretaker-boss Robert Page in each of Vale's last four fixtures but, having impressed during his 45-minute outing this weekend, will hope to have done enough to retain his place for Saturday's trip to Colchester United.
Karl Darlow, meanwhile, had an afternoon to forget in the Championship as Nottingham Forest were beaten 3-1 at home by Blackburn Rovers.
Despite Matty Fryatt's early opener for Stuart Pearce's side, goalkeeper Darlow - who is on-loan at the City Ground until the end of the season - couldn't keep out strikes from Alex Baptiste, Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes as the two-time European Cup winners slipped to seventh in the second tier.
Fellow Magpies loanee Jamaal Lascelles was again an unused substitute for the Reds.
In the Barclays Premier League, winger Hatem Ben Arfa played just over 70 minutes of Hull City's creditable goalless draw at Liverpool before being replaced by Sone Aluko. The result kept Steve Bruce's men in ninth place in the top flight table.
In the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup, young forward Jonathyn Quinn as on the bench as Blyth Spartans progressed to the first round proper with a dramatic 4-3 victory away at Leek Town. The Spartans will find out their opponents on Monday evening.
In Italy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa featured for AS Roma as they laboured to a goalless draw away at Sampdoria. The French defender, 25, played the full 90 minutes for Rudi Garcia's side as they wasted the opportunity leapfrog Juventus into top spot in Serie A.
And finally, in France, Sylvain Marveaux was unable to prevent Guingamp falling to a disappointing 7-2 home defeat at the hands of Nice. The attacking midfielder played 58 minutes of the Ligue 1 contest.
