Perez Nominated For Prestigious Awards

Written by Newcastle Utd

Newcastle's Ayoze Perez has been shortlisted for two of Spain's most prestigious awards at a glittering ceremony in Madrid next week

Ayoze Pérez's reputation in England continues to rise after another impressive cameo against Leicester on Saturday - but in his native Spain, his stock could barely be higher.

The forward, who won a first under-21 cap for his country against Hungary last month, has been nominated for two of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional's most prestigious awards.

Stars like Cristiano Rolando, Sergio Busquets, Andrés Iniesta and Thiabut Courtois are also up for gongs at next week's gala ceremony, which will be held in Madrid.

Pérez, whose goal for Newcastle in a behind-closed-doors friendly win against Carlisle last month became a YouTube sensation, joined United from CD Tenerife in June having scored 16 goals in 34 appearances last term - his first full season in the Segunda Division B.

And that has seen him nominated for the Best Breakthrough Player in the 2013/14 Liga Adelante award alongside SD Eibar's Jota Peleteiro and RC Deportivo's Pablo Insua.

He's also been nominated as the league's Best Attacking Midfielder. Peleteiro and UD Las Palmas star Juan Carlos Valeron are the other names in the frame.

Real Madrid ace Ronaldo is up for La Liga's Best Forward and faces competition from Diego Costa, now of Chelsea.

But Pérez may not be able to attend the ceremony as it takes place two days before Newcastle's Capital One Cup fourth round tie at Manchester City.
