Ryan Taylor will step up his comeback when Newcastle's under-21s host Brighton on Monday (kick-off 1pm).
The 30-year-old has played in two practice matches against Carlisle and Burnley since returning from the knee injuries which had kept him out for two years.
And now he'll make his first Barclays Under-21 Premier League appearance in the behind-closed-doors match at United's training ground.
Rob Elliot is also set to play while Facundo Ferreyra, Gael Bigirimana and Haris Vuckic are named in Peter Beardsley's squad.
Youngsters including Lubo Satka, Callum Roberts, Alex Gilliead and Daniel Barlaser will also hope to catch the eye of the Magpies' coaching staff while Tom Heardman will be keen to add to the 13 goals he's scored in all competitions this term.
Newcastle could return to the top of the table with a victory against the Seagulls, who are currently bottom.
