Loan Watch: First Defeat For Forest Pair

Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles suffered the first league defeat of their loan spell at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with a 2-1 loss at Cardiff.

Two goals in five first-half minutes from Federico Macheda and Peter Whittingham put the Bluebirds firmly in control, with Britt Assombalonga netting a late consolation for Forest as their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign ended.

The Reds had previously been flying high in the second tier, but the loss saw them slip to fifth, with Watford replacing Stuart Pearce's side at the summit.

Goalkeeper Darlow played the full 90 minutes for Forest, while centre-back Lascelles was an unused substitute in South Wales.

In the Barclays Premier League, Hatem Ben Arfa made his first league start as Hull City picked up an impressive 2-2 draw away at Arsenal.

The French forward was deployed just off lone striker Abel Hernandez, who scored Hull's second goal, to add to a Mohamed Diame strike at the Emirates Stadium.

Earlier, Alexis Sanchez had given Arsenal an early lead, and Danny Welbeck snatched a point for the Gunners with seconds remaining.

In League One, Remie Streete was an unused substitute for Port Vale, who lost 2-0 away at Preston North End, while Freddie Woodman also warmed the bench in League Two, as Hartlepool United went down 2-1 at home to Luton Town.

In the Evostick Northern League Premier Division, Jonathyn Quinn was unable to inspire Blyth Spartans to three points at Barwell. The young forward was introduced in the 81st minute with Spartans 2-1 down, and that is how it remained at Kirkby Park.

Elsewhere, Roma remain second in Serie A thanks to a 3-0 home victory over Chievo. All the goals came in the first half, and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa played the entire match at the Stadio Olimpico.

In France, Sylvain Marveaux claimed an assist for Guingamp in a 2-1 victory away at Lille in Ligue 1.

Guingamp scored either side of half-time through Ronnie Schwartz and Claudio Beauvue to go two up, before Lille got on the scoresheet with 11 minutes remaining.
