Pardew: 'All That Matters Is The Win'

Written by Newcastle Utd

Alan Pardew is hoping to deliver the Magpies' first league win of the season, against Leicester on Saturday

After an international break, Newcastle United return to Barclays Premier League action on Saturday against Leicester City at St. James' Park (3pm kick-off).

Manager Alan Pardew is hoping to deliver the Magpies' first league win of the season and wants his side to continue their trend of outworking their opponents, in order to pick up all three points against the Foxes.

"One thing that does back us up for the effort and commitment of the squad is the stats - every team we've played physically we've outworked, without getting the results we want," said Pardew.

"The most important thing is that we win the game on Saturday, therefore if we keep hitting those barriers in our work rate, in our commitment, in our desire, then we will get that win.

"This Club needs a win, for our fans, for our Club and everyone associated with it, so I'm desperate for that win this Saturday and I really hope we get it."

After United came from behind to draw 2-2 last time out at Swansea a fortnight ago, Pardew would have liked another game straight away in order to build on the momentum.

However the international break has allowed both himself and his squad to refresh and recover from a string of gruelling fixtures.

"We've worked hard on the players we have had and they've worked really well this week, I've been really pleased," said the boss.

"Sometimes there can be a lack of focus when there is no game but we've worked really well and are in as good shape as we can be with the disruption the international week brings."

Leicester come to St. James' Park on Saturday after a good start to life back in the Premier League.

Nigel Pearson's side have recorded good results against some of the country's biggest clubs, and Pardew is aware United have a tough afternoon ahead of them.

"They make it difficult for you to control the game because of the effort they put in," he said, of newly-promoted City.

"The most important thing for us is we are focused in how we attack and not leave ourselves open to counter-attacking and the quick play Leicester can do.

"They've had the result of the season as far as I'm concerned in beating Manchester United, so they can produce a great performance and we need to be wary of that.

"They have good players and that's the bottom line. I think they've signed well.

"(Leonardo) Ulloa from Brighton has done very well for them, and (Jamie) Vardy is a real troublesome player. They have some good players so we need to be on our guard."
