Newcastle Named Lowest Priced Matchday

Written by Newcastle Utd

United have been named as the lowest priced matchday experience for supporters in the Premier League for the third successive season

Newcastle United have been named as the lowest priced matchday experience for supporters in the Premier League for the third successive season.

The figures were announced on Wednesday morning as part of the BBC Sport's Price of Football survey; an independent study which compares prices for 176 clubs in 11 divisions across British football.

Prices are recorded for items including the most expensive and cheapest season tickets and adult matchday tickets, as well as the cost of a tea, a pie and a programme, with a calculation made to find the cheapest possible day out at a match.

And a day out at St. James' Park came out as both the top flight's cheapest matchday ticket and overall experience for the third year running.

When it comes to an individual matchday ticket, United's cheapest adult seats start from just £15, with juniors priced from £5 for selected fixtures.

Combining that ticket with a matchday programme (£3), a pie (£3) and a cup of tea (£2.30) makes a trip to St. James' Park for a Barclays Premier League fixture potentially cost just £23.30 - the cheapest in the division and the lowest of all the football league clubs in the North-East and Cumbria.

While the cheapest adult price for a fan purchasing a brand new season ticket at the start of the current 2014/15 season is competitively priced at just £525, thousands of supporters are already paying far less at St. James' Park as part of ongoing price freeze deals.

In the stadium's family enclosure - the biggest in Europe at more than 8,000 seats, adults pay as little as £327 per season, with juniors' season tickets added from just £90.

Lee Marshall, PR and supporter liaison manager at Newcastle United, said: "Keeping football affordable is an important commitment for us so we are pleased to see that our prices reflect favourably in the Price of Football survey once again.

"In addition to competitive matchday prices, our long-term price freeze offers on season tickets, vastly increased family area and reciprocal away ticket deals with other clubs are helping us to make Barclays Premier League football as accessible as possible."

United have led the charge on reducing the price of away tickets in the Barclays Premier League, with a number of reciprocal price deals struck with clubs.

The deals, which were introduced during the 2013/14 campaign, offer away fans travelling to league fixtures at St. James' Park cheaper match tickets in the visitors' section if their club guarantees the same lower price for Newcastle supporters who travel to their ground.

United have already reached agreements with five Barclays Premier League clubs this season - Stoke City, Southampton, Swansea City, Everton and West Bromwich Albion, with tickets slashed to as low as £15.
