Sleepout Raises Thousands For Charity

Written by Newcastle Utd

Some of the region's top businessmen slept by the St. James' Park pitch, all in aid of charity

A major fundraising event in Newcastle is on target to raise tens of thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes.

The Newcastle CEO Sleepout took place on Thursday (9th October) and saw 45 of the region's top business executives giving up a night of comfort to sleep out by the side of the pitch at St. James' Park.

Organised by CEO Sleepout UK in partnership with Newcastle United Foundation and Changing Lives, the CEO Sleepout was an opportunity for business leaders to raise awareness and important funds for services which are tackling homelessness and poverty in the city.

Among those who slept by the pitch were Atul Malhotra, managing director of the Malhotra Group, Mark Ions, managing director of Exclusive Ltd, Carole Kitching, principle at Newcastle College and David Langhorne, director of property at Your Homes Newcastle.

David said: "Your Homes Newcastle recognises that homelessness is a real and serious problem that needs to be addressed.

"We are dedicated to preventing homelessness within the city and we fully support any work that puts the issue at the forefront of people's minds.

"Being in a position to take part in an event such as the CEO Sleepout has been a humbling experience and I'm proud to have played a part in raising both money and awareness of such a worthy cause."

The funds raised will now be distributed to a range of good causes including Changing, Newcastle United Foundation, De Paul Trust and Newcastle Homeless Football Club.
