Pardew Praise For Keeper Krul

Written by Newcastle Utd

Alan Pardew felt that Tim Krul's second-half save from Wilfried Bony at Swansea was one of the Dutch goalkeeper's top five stops

Papiss Cisse rightly grabbed most of the headlines for his two goals at Swansea on Saturday, but Alan Pardew felt the performance of Tim Krul was just as important as Newcastle claimed a point at the Liberty Stadium.

The Dutch goalkeeper made important saves in both halves, with arguably the best - and most pivotal - seeing him deny Wilfried Bony in the 73rd minute.

Indeed, Pardew believes it was one of the very best stops that Krul has produced in his 154 appearances for the Magpies. It prevented the home side from going 3-1 up and instead, less than two minutes later, United had equalised.

"Bony's connected with a fantastic cross and he's had to make a brilliant save," Pardew told nufcTV. "It'll probably go in Tim's top five, I should think, because it was that good.

"(He was) going back the wrong way, weight going all the wrong way and to be able to reach that was a big lift for him."

Pardew hailed Cisse as "top drawer" and also hailed the impact made by substitute Sammy Ameobi, who set up Newcastle's second goal with a great burst of pace and perfect cross.

"I thought Sammy looked bright," the manager said. "We're really hoping the penny has dropped with him because he's got such talent and he produced it (on Saturday).

"He showed it on the Premier League level and now we've got to see a little bit more of that this season from him.

"I've been talking about him a long time without him really delivering but this season he looks even better than any time I've seen him, so hopefully he can have a big season for us."

Several of United's players will now report for international duty with their respective countries before Newcastle's next Barclays Premier League game at home to Leciester on Saturday, 18th October.

And Pardew said: "It's a time that we lose all our big players. We're going to have two days to prepare for a massive game.

"It's a big, big chance for us to get our win in the next home game, and we've got to try to take it."
