Pardew Calls For Fighting Spirit In South Wales

Alan Pardew is calling upon his senior players to lead the fight ahead of Saturday's trip to Swansea City

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is calling upon his senior players to lead the fight in the build-up to Saturday's Barclays Premier League trip to Swansea City (3pm kick-off).

In the Magpies' final match before another international break, Pardew wants his senior squad members to lift the new arrivals at the Club in order for United to emerge from their current run of disappointing results.

"This Club needs big players," said Pardew.

"Our big players need to stand up and we need to create some new big players and that's what we are trying to do.

"It's about fighting and digging in at this point, and that's what our players need to do, and if we can do that then something will fall our way.

"It's a difficult game against Swansea. They are a good side at home and have a good record recently and therefore we need to fight even harder than we normally do."

Without a win their last three games, Swansea still remain fifth in the top flight table and present Newcastle with another tough test away from home.

Pardew believes a good result at the Liberty Stadium will help his players to relax and play more expressive football moving ahead, with Leicester next up at St. James' Park on Saturday, 18th October.

"When you win it gives you the confidence so you can let yourself flow a little bit more and come up with some refreshing ideas," said Pardew.

"As an individual you can get caught up trying to join the dots together. That's what we are doing at the moment - trying to join the dots together - and we need to be a little more flamboyant.

"I understand that and the players expressing themselves is what everybody wants to see."
