Emmanuel Riviere hopes his first Newcastle United goals are just the start of a positive first season in English football.
Having gone six games without a goal, the summer signing from Monaco opened his Magpies account at the seventh time of asking on Wednesday night away at Crystal Palace in the Capital One Cup.
Riviere netted twice at Selhurst Park in a 3-2 extra-time victory which booked United's place in round four of the competition.
And the 24-year-old revealed he never lost faith in his ability to find the back of the net after a tough first few weeks on Tyneside.
"I am happy to get my two first goals," Riviere told nufc.co.uk.
"It is good for my confidence and good for the team.
"I didn't worry about not scoring before because in training I have been playing well but the goals just weren't coming.
"But I kept believing in myself, I know what I can do, I worked hard and I stayed calm.
"I was waiting for the first goal to come, and now it is here I know that more will come.I want to play the next game and to keep going like this."
The Frenchman looked dangerous throughout on Wednesday, but having curled home his first effort of the night looked far from happy.
And he explained it stemmed from frustration at not having scored before the 36th minute.
"I wasn't happy at all because I had missed a good chance before that when I should have scored," said Riviere.
"Sammy gave me a good assist but I didn't score and I should have done. That is why I didn't celebrate much.
"But everybody is very pleased with the result. It was a good win and we showed a good fighting spirit in the team.
"It was very important to win this match, for the team and for the fans.
"It was a very tough match and very hard, but we stayed compact as a team, we fought for each other and we got the result we wanted."
