Second-String Gunning For Arsenal

Written by Newcastle Utd

Newcastle's under-21s face Arsenal on Monday night in a top-of-the-table clash at Boreham Wood

By Dan King - Newcastle United Digital Editor

Second-placed Newcastle travel to table-topping Arsenal in tier two of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League on Monday (kick-off 7pm).

Haris Vuckic is included in Peter Beardsley's squad for the trip to Boreham Wood's Meadow Park, while Gael Bigirimana and Shane Ferguson also add their senior experience to the group.

Right-back Jamie Sterry will continue his comeback from injury while 16-year-old goalkeeper Paul Woolston provides back-up to Jak Alnwick as Freddie Woodman is away with England under-18s ahead of Wednesday's match against Italy.

But big striker Tom Heardman, who has scored nine goals in total this term, misses out.

Newcastle have won two and drawn one of their opening three games of the season at under-21 level and would go top of the league with a victory.

The squad is: Jak Alnwick, Daniel Barlaser, Gael Bigirimana, Shane Ferguson, Macaulay Gillesphey, Alex Gilliead, Ryan McKinnon, Greg Olley, Callum Roberts, Lubo Satka, Liam Smith, Jamie Sterry, Remie Streete, Haris Vuckic, Callum Williams, Paul Woolston.
