Dummett's Delight At Hull Fightback

Paul Dummett expressed his relief after a second-half comeback salvaged a point against Hull

Left-back Paul Dummett expressed his relief after a second-half comeback against Hull City helped the Magpies salvage a point on Saturday.

The Welsh international, who reclaimed a starting berth from Massadio Haidara for the game against Steve Bruce's side, told nufc.co.uk the result showed their character and resilience having gone two goals down early in the second-half.

"It was massive because we knew it was going to be a hard game. We obviously haven't won in the Premier League this season, and there's never any easy game in this league anyway," said the Academy product.

"At two goals down there was massive togetherness from the team to pull it back and get a 2-2."

Spectacular strikes from Nikica Jelavic and Mohamed Diame looked to have given the Tigers the points, but substitute Papiss Cisse - out since April with a knee injury - grabbed a late brace to earn a share of the spoils.

Dummett said that, at two goals down, United needed to show their spirit in order to find a way back into the contest.

"We needed to stick together," he explained.

"I thought if we got one goal, we could go on and get more and that's what happened. Thankfully Papiss has got us two, and it could have been three.

"It shows the togetherness in the team and we strive to do better every game.

"It was really hard going down two goals and I think we've proved a lot of people wrong because we had a lot of doubters out there, probably when we went 2-0 down people though we would have just crumbled, but we've shown that we can do it.

"We're disappointed because we had chances, even in the first half when it was goalless, but we didn't score.

"Even at the end, when it was 2-2, we had a chance at the back post - I think it was Gouff - and then Jack maybe as well, so we're disappointed we haven't got the three points really.

"One point's better than none, but we're disappointed that we haven't got three."

The defender also reserved a word for returning hero Cisse, whose timely double got Alan Pardew's men out of jail.

"I'm delighted for Papiss to get his two goals," said Dummett.

"He's been out for a long time and it's been a struggle, so we're delighted for him to come back and get the two goals.

"That will give him a massive confidence boost and help the team as well going into the next game, and we need to go on to Wednesday and get a victory there (at Crystal Palace).

"It has been tough, so Papiss has hopefully given us a bit extra confidence that we can go out there and score goals, and we've got to go out there on Wednesday, be confident and hopefully we can get some more goals and win a game."
